Should De Niro be a New York tourist figure?

The article talks about the new tourist political of the New York City, for attract visitors after 9/11 attack. Basically, explain in a humoristic or sarcastic way, the Robert the Niro choice like “the tourist figure” of the city by the major Michael Bloomberg.

The author ask himself why the city council try to reconstruct the city image, trough the revival of film characters from 20 or 30 years ago, like “taxi driver” or “mean streets”.

To take the image of the legendary characters seems to be a perfect tool for reactivate the tourist activity, because the people, who visit the city, had a nostalgic image about it. So, to get a meet with a film characters, turn the visits much more attractive for the tourist. Obviously, the city council can get some benefits of it

Finally, the author says the New York City doesn’t need a person to sale the city image, because the city and the movies speak by themselves.

Personally, I like the city very much, but , like an architecture estudent, I rather make different ways to create new tourist activity…..and I don’t like the major!!!
